Boxed Wines for Cooking

Dilemma: Cooking wines lack flavor, and are not often sold in a good variety of choices. Bottles of wine are more expensive and are harder to store and keep fresh, especially if used infrequently.

Solution: Whether a recipe calls for cooking wine or a certain type of red wine or white wine, these sizes of small boxed wines are a great solution. I have used these for years as a handy way to always have a supply of wines on hand for cooking. Recipes often call for measurements between 1/4 cup and 1 cup of wine, and 500mL boxes supply enough for numerous recipes, without the need to open a whole bottle of wine and seek to keep it fresh for consumption. I have really liked using boxes of either this brand or another. I go through them fairly quickly in the kitchen—thus the wine always seems fresh. Cooking wines sold in clear glass bottles often lack concentrated flavor, and I do not prefer them. Wine boxes are my favorite way to always use real wine in the kitchen—with convenient packaging and small portions.

Perhaps boxes of wine will be a useful solution in your kitchen if you have ever had the dilemma of whether to open a new bottle of wine for a recipe that only needs a few ounces of this versatile liquid.
